During a research session in class I decided to take a look over at fellow classmate’s blog called Costa Rica Art Gallery and found a very cool article on monkeys. Now this is not your ordinary monkey but the very loud Howler Monkey.
These monkeys are known for their loud, guttural howls and are natives to South and Central American forests. They are most vocal at the beginning and end of the day and howls can travel for three miles through dense forest. Really cool out of all the monkeys, there are the largest in the Latin American rainforest.
The size of the Howler monkeys can grow to anywhere from 2 feet to 4 feet tall and weigh in from 8lbs to 22lbs. Their large necks and vicious lower jaws are quite larger then most monkeys this size. The neck needs to be large in order to use their super-sized vocal cords to socialize.
The Howler monkeys “Facebook” as we call it or communicate via social system by living in groups of 10 to 15 animals, with one to three adult males and multiple females. Almost feels like present day where every man wants to have multiple wives.
